Rocker Rod Stewart wore it well when he was presented with a special SECC award thanks to Evening Times readers.

Rod received one of the venue’s ‘Champions’ awards marking its 25th anniversary.

Debbie McWilliams, from the SECC’s ticketSOUP.com Box Office, gave Rod the plaque before the first of his three dates at the SECC.

He said: “Thank you very much for this award. It’s no secret that I love coming to Scotland and we always have a great time here. We look forward to the next 25 years!”

Rod was selected for the award after Evening Times readers were asked to nominate their most memorable concert at the SECC.

The award to the singer is the 10th to be made in recognition of the contributions made by key people and organisations over the last 25 years to the SECC’s success.

SECC chief executive John Sharkey said: “We are delighted to present our 10th Champion Award to Rod and to thank the Evening Times readers for their support. Coincidentally, Rod’s Friday performance was his tenth appearance here over the last two decades.

“Rod is a highly worthy recipient for the award, having entertained thousands of fans at the SECC over the last 25 years and, much like the Evening Times, has come to be regarded as one of Glasgow’s icons.”
